Tangled has just been officially added to the list of live-action Disney Princess adaptations, following the upcoming Snow White and last year’s The Little Mermaid. While there’s no release date quite yet, the Hollywood Reporter announced that Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman) has been tapped to helm the movie.
The report confirmed that Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the writer behind Sony’s upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel reboot, has penned the latest draft of the script for Disney’s live-action Tangled, an adaptation of its 2010 animated hit.
No casting for Gracey’s Tangled has been announced yet, though rumors swirled earlier this year that Mean Girls: The Musical standout Avantika was in the running to lead the film as Rapunzel. The talk inspired some very racist chatter against the Indian American actress—despite the fact that her version of Karen Shetty was a fan favorite in the musical adaptation of the Lindsay Lohan 2004 teen movie (take a look at her perfomance of “Sexy” below). Flynn Rider has also not yet been cast, but we’re glad that Zachary Levi’s Disney Prince days are numbered.
